TESTIMONIALS
I am a father of 3 grown children and a U.S. Navy veteran with 6 years of service. After my divorce I had to move back home to help my ailing mother. She had trouble getting around and taking care of daily tasks.
I did the cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping, laundry yard work etc... I lost her in 2018. I spiraled and wound up on the streets. Eventually, I got off the streets and started working construction again at a good friend's company.
After 2 years I got COVID for the 2nd time. I wound up in the hospital with breathing problems and fatigue. I couldn’t work anymore. I get winded and tired after minor exertion. I have been under a doctor's care but there isn't much they can do for me other than help with the symptoms. I applied for SSDI but because I didn't work while caring for my mother I didn't qualify. The Veterans Assistance Commission has saved me from becoming homeless again! I am now in the process of applying for SSI. I must also get several more tests about my health done over the next few months. I am starting the application process with the Veterans Administration, hence the medical tests. THIS TAKES TIME! Thank goodness for the VAC and Winnebago County. I wouldn't survive without your help.
