Budgets
The county board is responsible for providing necessary and appropriate funds to the superintendent of a county Veterans' Assistance Commission. These funds are allocated based on the recommendation of the assistance committee of the Veterans' Assistance Commission.
Funding for Veterans Assistance Commissions can come from three primary sources: a tax levied under applicable Illinois laws, the county's general corporate fund, and state funds from the Department of Human Services. The minimum annual funding is set by the Illinois Public Aid Code unless the County Veterans Assistance Commission determines a lesser amount is sufficient. If a supervisor of general assistance or county board fails to provide the necessary funds as recommended, the Veterans Assistance Commission or a veterans service organization may petition the circuit court to mandate the allocation and payment of the required funds upon proof of their necessity.
