FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 9, 2025
Rockford, IL — April 9, 2025 — The Veterans Assistance Commission of Winnebago County (VACWC) has been informed by County leadership that its Supplemental Budget, submitted last month, will not be considered by the Finance Committee this month due to ongoing litigation.
VACWC Superintendent Jesus Pereira announced that while financial assistance services are currently paused, I will conduct monthly reviews of available fund and submit requests for monthly allocations from the Commission for as long as possible. “This is not a sustainable approach,” Pereira stated, “but we are committed to continuing our work with community partners and leveraging other available resources to support veterans in financial need.”
Additionally, the VACWC’s local medical transportation services remain on hold due to the funding shortfall. However, the Veterans Transportation Network rides to the Madison VA Medical Center are still operating without interruption.
Despite these financial constraints, the VACWC’s Governmental Veteran Service Officers remain fully available to assist veterans and their surviving spouses with claims and benefits provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
The VACWC remains dedicated to serving the veterans of Winnebago County and will continue to advocate for the resources necessary to support their needs.
